Singapore – 2 September 2019 – Held on 30 August 2019 at JW Marriott South Beach, the Singapore Smart Cities Summit saw over 350 participants from the region and beyond coming together to accelerate smart cities innovation and initiatives. The summit had corporate innovators, industry disruptors, investors and startups from 18 countries which includes the USA, UK, Philippines, Mexico, Swaziland, among others.
The summit that was organised by igloohome featured over 30 panellists that ranged from CEOs, scientists, investors, journalists and corporate innovators who brought insights that covered sustainability, demystifying deep tech, energy and construction tech, smart cities trends and issues and more.
Panellists and moderators included Helen Lam, Head of Development Practices & Innovation, Lendlease Asia; David Ramli, journalist from Bloomberg; Jirapat Janjerdsak, CTO of Siri Ventures; Dylan Loh, journalist from Nikkei Asian Review; Diomedes Kastanis, Head of IoT, Singtel; Steve Mulhuish, co-founder of PropertyGuru and more.
The event was opened by Mr Ted Tan, Deputy CEO of Enterprise Singapore (ESG) and Chairman of SEEDS Capital, the investment arm of ESG. “This is an excellent platform for bringing us all together on the dialogue of smart cities.” he told a rapt audience after welcoming the distinguished guests. “The government is actively investing in infrastructure for Singapore to become a smart city. It presents a huge mass of opportunities for companies to leverage on to develop solutions for the main objectives of improving the quality of life for people; environmentally sustainable development; and ensuring economic growth.”
“We’re proud to be the first to organise this ground-up initiative,” said Anthony Chow, CEO and co-founder of igloohome. “We hope our efforts will inspire others to create more of such opportunities for those in the smart city ecosystem to come together to share ideas, collaborate and ultimately accelerate the adoption of smart cities initiatives not just in Singapore, but in the region and beyond.”
13 curated start-ups showcased their products and services and networked with the corporate innovators. They included Transcelestial Technology, a start-up focused on deep tech; IoTeX, a Silicon Valley blockchain start-up; and Rytle, a German start-up that has disrupted inner-city urban logistics. Others include Ampd Energy, AquaPro, UrbanZoom, Valta, Trabble and more.
The summit also created one of the biggest networks in the region consisting of corporate innovators, industry disruptors, investors and startups during its AWS (Amazon Web Services) Activate Networking Lunch session and ACE Corporate Innovators Networking Session.
“The diversity of companies, corporate innovators, government officials, VCs that are here today is amazing,” said Brandon Ng, CEO of Ampd Energy. “It’s a complete melting pot of people with different backgrounds and as a startup, your existence and survival is built around the ability to make deals. You’re looking for like-minded people who want to know what you do and how you can benefit each other. The networking session provided here is of the most value.”
The event was hosted by igloohome, the leading smart access company in the region. Sponsors were AWS Activate, ACE; and held in partnership with leading smart cities innovator and investor ecosystems such as Innoven Capital, TNB Ventures, Preqin, Asia PropTech, TechShake and Beamstart.
